Masturbation (jerking off) is a normal, healthy activity for most 16-year-olds. There is no exact number of tissues required because the amount of semen varies from person to person and even between sessions.
The average ejaculation produces about 1.5 to 5 milliliters of semen—roughly one teaspoon. That is a small amount, so most people find that 2 to 4 tissues (or a few squares of toilet paper) are enough to wipe up comfortably.
Simple cleanup tips
- Keep tissues or toilet paper within easy reach before you start.
- After you ejaculate, gently wipe the semen from your penis and surrounding skin.
- Wash your hands with soap and water afterward.
- If you can, rinse your penis with water to stay clean and comfortable.
Some people prefer a clean washcloth or small towel that they can toss in the laundry later. Either way works. Used tissues should go in the trash (not the toilet) to avoid clogs.
If you use lotion or lubricant, you may need one or two extra tissues. Experiment privately to see what feels easiest for you—there is no right or wrong method.
Health reminder: Masturbation does not cause physical harm or “use up” anything. If you ever notice pain, unusual discharge, or have other sexual-health questions, a doctor, nurse, or trusted adult can give confidential advice. They have heard these questions before and will not judge you.
